HOPE4GHANA was the major focus of our organisation for 2007 and it involved raising funds to contribute to Griffith University's Dabaa Medical Centre Project in a rural area of Ghana, West Africa. This much-needed facility will consist of consulting rooms, a maternity ward, dispensary, family planning clinic, and recovery rooms, and service all the surrounding rural communities that currently have no access to health care. The project was selected by Griffith University upon application from The Watson Foundation, an established international aid organisation based on the Gold Coast. Work was commenced on the project by The Watson Foundation in 2005 with the purchase of a 2.2 acre block in the township of Dabaa. This site was selected through close consultation with Ghanaian Ministers to ensure maximal accessibility for both patients and practitioners.

Construction of the centre will be in two stages, the first of which is currently underway (funded entirely by The Watson Foundation) and due for completion in March 2007. It will provide a dispensary, laboratory, and consulting rooms for outpatient services, immunization facilities, and minor medical procedures. Stage Two of the project (to be funded by HOPE4HEALTH) encompasses the maternity ward and family planning clinic with a completion date set for December 2007.
